Parramatta City Council are creating a Smart City masterplan that will integrate cutting edge technology and town planning to increase liveability.
Lord Mayor Scott Lloyd said “It’s about linking projects together and improving residents’ lives through technology.” Such initiatives include free public Wi-Fi, open data, state of the art library of the future, Discovery Centre and street sign way finders.
This kind of technology is found in cities like London, Barcelona and Amsterdam and will catapult Parramatta to the forefront in Australia. In charge of this initiative is Tara Cheeseman who has been appointed Australia’s first strategic smart city officer. She said of her job, “Cities, locally, nationally and abroad, are competing for top talent and trade and they must provide compelling offerings to their investors, employers, employees, patrons and residents.”
These plans should make for exciting times for Parramatta residents and it seems the best is yet to come as Cr Lloyd said, “There are endless possibilities of what this city can do as it evolves.”
