Set back from its Trinity Avenue address, Darling House, is considered the crown jewel of Millers Point. The well-manicured gardens lead the eye up to this landmark building with its gorgeous Victorian Georgian fa\u00e7ade.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Before closing in 2015, this period home had been an aged care hostel for more than 20 years to eight elderly residents. The NSW government scrapped the $5-a-week rent agreement made in 1990s and now it is one of 50 houses to be sold in spite of continued protests in the area.<\/p>\n

Darling House is the largest of all the Government properties to be put on the market. Agent Richard Shalhoub of McGrath Real Estate said, \u201cIt\u2019s an extremely unique proposition. It\u2019s a 759-square-metre block with a free-standing home. It\u2019s the scale \u2013 of the internal space and the garden \u2013 that makes it stand out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Compared to other houses sold by the government, Darling House is in reasonable condition, however, a potential buyer would probably wish to restore the grand lady and open up space inside.<\/p>\n

This rare free-standing villa built in 1901 has a price guide of $5.5 to 6 million. The interest shown in the property has come from empty nesters, first home buyers and investors. \u201cIt would be very difficult to find another home of the same scale in this precinct or the wider CBD,\u201d Shalhoub said.<\/p>\n
