North Shore Suburbs Prone To Bushfires

Bushfires St Ives

Fire Season is just around the corner and properties on Sydney’s North Shore have been rated as some of the highest risk areas for bush fires in NSW.

Recently, insurance company GIO looked into properties and their proximity to vegetation density and types and through this analysis found that 10 North Shore suburbs are at a higher risk than others.

Those in at-risk areas should have a bush fire survival plan in place but GIO spokesman Stephen Bell said “alarmingly, only one in 10 people admit they would not know what to do if faced with a bushfire, essentially making them sitting ducks.”

Shane Fitzsimmons, the Commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service, said people need to personalise the risk of bushfires rather than think these things won’t happen to them – take a look at NSW’s Bush Fire Survival Plan to help you keep your home and family safe.

  • Chatswood West,
  • Castle Cove,
  • Castlecrag,
