This freestanding, three bedroom home in Marrickville is being sold at auction by the Marrickville Council to recoup unpaid rates.
Due to privacy reasons the council can’t disclose the actual amount but as they have now gone unpaid for over 5 years the sum should be around $10,000.
The Council and realtor, David Diamantopoulos of LJ Hooker Marrickville / Dulwich, were in a quandary as there is no price guide for this situation. This issue in pricing is also coupled with the fact that the house is still private property and no permission has been granted for access.
Mr Diamantopoulos said that the property price must then be based on land value alone as buyers can’t inspect or access the property. This brings the value down to $1.1 – $1.2 million from a top of $1.4 million.
The spokeswoman from the Marrickville Council said, “The owner has until 5pm, 27 August 2015 to stop the sale process by paying all the outstanding rates and charges.”
